A question for the crafty moms out there
Since I've started to get that intense urge to get my crafting completely back on track, I have a question for all you moms out there. When do you work on projects? If the kid's awake and in your care, how do you handle them and crafting at the same time? Do you find that you have to have someone else around to tend to the kiddo? Any and all advice is appreciated!

It's all about the nap time for me. I have a pack and play but I bet Tallulah has not spent an hour total in the thing over the course of the last 13 months. Sometimes I craft when she is awake, but since she is mobile it's hard. I pretty much just hit the ground running to my studio when she goes down for a nap.
nap time or the whole whole hour I have to myself after he goes to bed. It's really hard. I have itchy fingers for a lot of projects.
Too bad there's not a daycare to send him to occasionally so I can get a craft fix!
When she was an infant, I did stuff when she slept or was in my arms or sling. Later, we sat at the kitchen table together and she had her stuff and I had mine so she kept busy (except when she wanted to get up and explore, which wasn't a problem since I put up a gate to keep her in the family room with me which is childproof). Now that she's seven, she comes into my studio and colors or does needlepoint right next to me. The only hard part is designing. I do that when she's in school.
when my kids were little, i was like jennifer and i worked during nap time. also late at night. these days i work it in whenever i can. and my kids are teens so they help me out a LOT!! when you love to craft, you will find the time, somehow, some way!!
You ladies rock.
I was thinking that I was "wasting" time during the day...I just knew that others were able to get so much more done than I because they knew the secret! Where was that bit of magic that kept my eight-month-old busy and happy while I crafted?!? Ha!
Nap time and late nights it is! And I just look forward to the day that the little man can craft along side me. :-)
I'm not a mom, but I'll tell you how I manage my crazy schedule (Tiff, I think you already know, but for the sake of the others)...
I have a number of hobbies (fiction writing, game design, musicals for children, etc.), and I try to balance them well with spending plenty of time with family and my day job. What I do is...
(1) Since I am tired at the end of the day and don't want to look at my computer much any more, I get up insanely early and work on my projects while the rest of the world sleeps (it was around 4AM, but since the fbleeping DST, it's more like 5-5:30AM). I know, most people think this time is unimaginable, but you can get used to it after a couple of weeks.
(2) Since I have multiple hobbies, at the beginning of the year, I have been keep track (somewhat) of how much I spend on each hobby. Maybe not necessarily to know what hobby I've been neglecting, but more to see what I have accomplished.
(3) Trade off time. If you want to try to finish up something, ask for a moment of time. Ask your hubby to take the child to the park, store, etc.. Of course, it should work both ways, too.
(4) Trade babysitting. If you need a moment to yourself/yourselves in the evening, even if it isn't to go on a date with your spousal unit, but to work on stuff you want to work on, you could find someone to watch the youngun'.
(5) Work on what you can, when you can. I may not be able to fully work on my hobbies at work, but I can take a quick moment to jot down a note.
